If you're trying to create a modern-day crime drama you need to establish a If you're trying to create a modern-day crime drama you need to establish a sense of adult realism combined with a realistic development of human relationships.

Be clever and research your subject. Keep experts on the set who might correct you if you step over the line.

This drama has NONE of that! A science-fiction hologram machine creating details that are impossible to deduce.

Impossible to reach conclusions such as the precise type of knife used in a murder or the weight of a hammer used to kill someone.

Add to this mix; comic-book, 2-Dimensional, cardboard relationships with contrived antagonisms apparently shared by everyone for everyone.

Boreanaz's behaviors are more reminiscent of a 40's Dick Tracy than a modern day criminalist and displays a contempt for scientists that is just absurd.

Either that or continue to assume that its audience is a group of drooling morons who really believe all this crap is possible. It's EASY to fake it and hope your audience is too stupid to catch it.

It's HARD to actually do the work and research your subject. I'm sure some people will see my views as precious or over-purist about the book, but frankly I don't see why they bothered to make this TV version o I'm sure some people will see my views as precious or over-purist about the book, but frankly I don't see why they bothered to make this TV version of the Kathy Reichs character Temperance Brennan.

They would have been better off just doing a brand new character who is a forensic anthropologist because the kind of people who will like this utterly anodyne show that looks like every other damn show on television will not care two hoots for anything in the Kathy Reichs novels, and Reichs' fans will be insulted that this underwear catalogue version of the stories has been thrown onto the screen that bears little or no relation to the original.

Firstly, the Temperance Brennan character is played by a woman barely old enough to have qualified in her field, let alone have gained any kind of meaningful experience.

Because, Jesus, how could a woman over 35 ever be of any use or interest to an entertaining television show?

Better make her young and fluffy looking! Leaving aside that some of the best female characters of the past few years have included Frances Conroy in Six Feet Under and Glenn Close in The Shield, and it's also not exactly impossible to find a woman who is attractive and interesting but just so happens not to be in her teens.

In fact this show has the opposite effect, depriving the character of any texture and credibility, so obvious is its lazy and insincere nod to the "Gee, I'm like, such a strong and serious woman, okay?

It's really insulting to women, and in fact anyone who likes to see strong and interesting women on TV or otherwise. Why can't a woman get her hands dirty, do her job well, be over 30 but still be attractive and worth watching?

Emmy Nominated actress Mariska Hartigay is very attractive, plays a credible crime investigator in Special Victims Unit, and is 41 years old.

Emmy- and Golden Globe-winning and Oscar nominated Alfre Woodard is attractive, interesting, carries authority and dominates every scene she's ever acted in.

If I close my eyes I can't even remember what the actress they chose for this travesty looks like. I had to look up her name. What's the point of hiring an actress for such shallow reasons if she's not going to make any impact whatsoever?

She may be talented and charismatic just not on this evidence , but she's only in this to look pretty and that's boring.

Lots of women look pretty, and happen to be useful to society for other things as well. Middle aged old fart TV executives don't realise this, or that half their audience are women and the other half quite like women too.

Secondly, they have jettisoned everything that is interesting about the story. No chance of showing a couple of places featured less often in television shows, Like Montreal and Carolina from the source novels, then?

Brennan was a recovering alcoholic with a teenage daughter in the original, she occasionally clashed with the culture, language, people and differing police procedure in Canada.

She got involved in really intriguing cases. We suspended a certain amount of disbelief that a real life Forensic Anthropologist would get in danger and be central to an investigation for the glimpse we got into a fascinating and less often seen area of crime investigation.

Now not only is she just out of med school and gym socks, not doing any of the original stuff in the books AND solving crimes neatly every 54 minutes including commercial breaks.

Now she's writing novels about them as well! Kathy Reichs has time to write the novels because while her work is fascinating, she isn't actually the Tempe Brennan character.

This is just lame. This show is garbage because it tries to use the name of Kathy Reichs to add credibility to what is in fact just another mediocre show, not worthy of her books or something like CSI which is utterly populist but ten times more interesting and original than this , like a lazy schoolkid trying to skate through his homework by using a couple of fancy quotations to spruce up a half-written essay.

It's also garbage because it could have used the source material to make something quite different and interesting but chose CHOSE!

Or it could have just made a light, entertaining show without any pretension. They wanted to use the popular interest in forensics, and they wanted to cash in on CSI, and they wanted to re-create some Mulder and Scully chemistry.

They failed to measure up to any of the elements they imitate, because the originals were exactly that. As it is this doesn't even stand up to Quincy.

I'm surprised Kathy Reichs put her name to it. The first season of Bones is playing in Finland and I can't believe the amount of bullshit that this show puts on - the characters are shallow, poorl The first season of Bones is playing in Finland and I can't believe the amount of bullshit that this show puts on - the characters are shallow, poorly directed and clumsy.

It's a poor mans' CSI. Or actually, CSI without coherent plot. Although Bones has potential, it fails due to the lacking of the director who hasn't been able to extract the essence of the show from the actors.

It's actually sad to see a show throw it all away when it could had been a descent show with just a pinch more thought. From the start you get the feeling how awkward the acting is.

Long story short - don't waste your time on Bones. I just finished watching one episode S1- 5 A boy in a bush , so maybe my review is not very fair.

But based on that episode, this is a very poor versi But based on that episode, this is a very poor version of CSI, the acting is crap.

The main character, Dr whatever her name is, is so fake it actually hurts. I wouldn't cast her to do an add for dog food!

The other hurtful thing is David Boreanaz of the "Angel" fame, a good actor, does a great job, but wasted coz of the idiotic acting of that woman.

Supporting cast is OK, but all is ruined due to this stupid acting of Emily Deschanel. Very disappointing version of CSI, very sorry to see it appear on the filmography of some of the potential talents involved in it.

That woman is really sh t, at least in that episode. But based on this one view, I will not even invest watching it even if it was shown on an elevator screen.

I found the first 15 minutes or so to be a little "trite". The characters didn't seem to fit comfortably in their skin. But by the end of the pilot I But by the end of the pilot I was very much interested, especially in the forensics aspect.

I have a friend who is an anthropologist and I'm going to get her opinion about the Dr. The series has a lot of potential and I especially like that unlike X Files, these characters are dealing with "real life" events rather than other worldly events.

I think the lead actors are good together and am looking forward to the building of their chemistry together. Whether as working partners or romantics, I don't care, I just want there to be a degree of tension between them that will keep things interesting.

This is so bad I don't know where to begin. The lead role is a good starting point. It is a supreme Mary Sue character that has few things in common w It is a supreme Mary Sue character that has few things in common with the original one from the book, who was a bit more credible.

No, this one is invincible, infallible, indomitable, and insipid even beyond the overinflated standards that this "chicks with swords" era that our medias are spinning out of late.

She is a twenty-something top-model, thin as a match yet rich, already a leader in her academic field, a kung-fu master, a natural sniper and seems to have enough authority to naturally trump anyone official like puny FBI agents.

To balance it out, she is supposed to be socially awkward due to her typically harsh upbringing that transformed her into a "Spock" which gives us some delighted moments where she wonders what is "Star Wars", or "American Idol", but yet when it's really important she can conveniently reveal herself as a top negotiator and diplomat, because she is so superior, ya know.

To top it out, she is played by a wooden actress. The more talented Boreanaz serves as a faire-valoir token for this construct, acting as a bumbling comic-relief and house "Watson".

In fact, everything in there is a pop-parody of better works like Sherlock Holmes, CSI and X-Files, from which it tries to emulate the sexual tension between main protagonists.

It is however cheaper, as this is delivered with all the subtlety of an elbow poke in the ribs, but a million million poor factory girls will doubtlessly buy into it, hence the crazy rating this turkey gets.

In fact, the lowest common denominator goes a long way in this sad puppy, resulting in titillating sex details from the legion of sidekicks that aim to pass it out as daring and trendy, while the overall tone of the show carries an obvious neo-conservative view on things.

Story-wise, there's not much here to feast upon, as crimes that always start out with some gruesome remains are resolved using non-existent technology while the "squints", lovable but so wrong the women less than the guys goes on varied theories, all of them futile as the main character has it all from the start, and once it is established she goes out and then punch the guy, typically a real tough hombre, with a spin kick here and a slapper there.

I watched the show and it did feel familiar, yet fresh also. They seem like real squints, and that is a whole other world they live in. A bit of a stretch on the Holographic skull and body stuff.

I'll go with you there, but only if you let the squint out of the lab more. David B is and always will be Angel to some people, watch this show and you'll come away thinking its more Angelus than Angel, the humor and comic timing between him and Emily has the makings of a Moonlighting relationship if, IF the writers want to play it out that way.

All in all, a good show, directing was crisp the photography was also good. I am a massive fan of David Boreanaz so obviously i started watching this show for him alone, but to my delight this is turning out to be one of the I am a massive fan of David Boreanaz so obviously i started watching this show for him alone, but to my delight this is turning out to be one of the most well-rounded show there has been on television in years.

Despite what people might have thought of David Boreanaz's acting abilities, by starring in Bones he has proved that he is a well rounded actor whom can take any role and make it his own.

The rest of the cast has been perfectly selected to bounce of David and make the show the best there can be.

Also i am impressed with how Emily has turned out as an actor, in the first few episodes i thought she was a bit of a hollow actress, kind of carboardy, but i have since been proved very wrong and feel bad for terrible of how quick i judged her.

I can only hope than this show continues to be made for a least another couple of years so we fans can find out as much as there is to know about our beloved characters.

S To Fox Please please do not be as cruel as the bigwigs at the WB and cancel this show at the prime of it's run as it would be a dying shame and also doing this would grossly reduce your viewers.

The addition of David Boreanaz also was a big dra The addition of David Boreanaz also was a big draw, as he is a very charismatic actor and I adored Angel!

For fans of Ms Reichs books, this is a slightly odd amalgam of Kathy herself and her main character Temperance Brennan, who on the show is also a crime author like Ms Reichs - a top forensic anthropologist and author.

The characters are all new, apart from Brennan's ex-husband Pete although we only got a glimpse of him in the season premiere plus it is set in Washington DC rather than Canada and Virginia as in the books.

Tempe herself is rather different than the book character. Emily Deschanel is fine, but rather young and headstrong compared to the book Tempe.

Even in the one episode, we have seen her rushing into things quite recklessly. I guess they wanted to make her a little more dynamic for TV. The chemistry between Brennan and Booth Boreanaz was pretty good from the start, although they need to handle it properly.

Maybe the Mulder and Scully reference is a hint of how they might handle things. However, the crime was a little flimsy. This first episode seemed to focus far more on establishing character and tone than on plot.

Probably something that will change with future episodes. On the whole, Riechs fans can have fun being snooty and complaining about Tempe's drinking and the lack of her cat, but I thought the show had definite possibilities.

I know I'm keen to see how things unfold. I didn't expect to like it as much as I liked it. In fact, it's a sure sign of cancellation how much I like this show.

I never like crime shows. My mom loves them, but I find them dull, because they're about plots not characters. This is a crime show about characters not as good as "The Closer" -- the crime show I adored this summer -- mind you , and I enjoyed it.

At times, it seemed far-fetched, and the whole Senator plot-point in the pilot seemed awful easy, but the dialogue worked, the characters intrigue me, and the chemistry is great.

I expect good things from it. So good that you are going to feel it in the bones. I love this show. I have to say, the pilot is not that good but keep on watching the episodes and I can assure you, you are gonna love it.

The character are really amazing and you can see them dealing with real life and their own "world of bones" at the same time. Zach is one of those character I don't really have much to say.

Angie is really nice and at the same time I can't stand how she always seems to connect with the cases they are working on. Hodgins has his own view of life and really wants to stay away from his family, so he spends most of the time at work Booth and Bones have an amazing chemistry together and exact opposites, but at the same time they are the same.

Both of them, you can say, uses their work as a way to "fix" their personals issues. You have to see it. The dialogue is sharp, the acting is spot on; the characters are fun and well defined and each episode is worth watching.

I mean nobody cheats! Emily Deshawhatever doesn't make her character more "appealing" more "cute" - thus, making her more appealing!

I'm conflating all of these ideas because i want to cram in every reason why this is one of the 5 best shows on T.

It is funny and smart and charming and if it is cancelled for some dumb ass executive reason I swear to God I will boycott Cause it's got one of the other 5: This is a great show.

Here is a show that is refreshingly real, from characters to plots, while intellectually stimulating, and willing to tickle our funny bone.

Temperance 'Bones' Brennan Emily Deschanel is a smart, focused, professional woman whose sensitivities are not so far from the surface that she is hard, or hardened by avoiding them, nor so close to the surface that she is weak, or weakened by them.

She is serious, candid and forthright. Her ability to "handle" herself stems from confidence and experience, not tragedy or pathology as is so often the case in TV-land female characters.

While we are reminded regularly of his past as a military sniper, the sensitivity he brings to his duties as an FBI agent redeem his past actions, as is his hope.

Make no mistake, he is a fierce patriot and proud FBI man, yet his character's motives and motivation are clear and noble. They are never fanatically righteous or overbearingly macho.

These two characters are wonderfully balanced with each other: Their relationship rings true. Through agreements, disagreements and the sense of humor it takes to weather both, Deschanel and Boreanaz always deliver the wry portrayal these two staunchly serious, but genuinely human characters deserve.

Each character's work is expertly accomplished and equally important to the solutions they unravel together. As audience, we enjoy their working together.

With these two very real 21st Century individuals, and stories that skillfully incorporate forensic anthropology, both as it is used in the discipline of anthropology to understand the most ancient of artifacts, and as it is used in the most modern criminal labs, the foundation is strong for TV entertainment of the highest kind.

But, it isn't only the charisma of the two main characters or their portrayers that keeps the show real, believable, compelling. Brennan's support team at the lab are a fine crew Michaela Conlin as Angela Montenegro - forensic artist and friend to Dr.

Drama at a retirement home ensues when an elderly man's body is found in an acid dump site, and conversation at the lab turns to discussions of marriage and children.

The Flaw in the Saw. A dismembered body of a well-known golfer who became a lumberjack takes the team to the Lumber Sports Regional Championships, where they learn about an affair with a married rival that could have led to her murder.
